Have you ever visited a home and felt that something was, for lack of a better word, just off?
Perhaps you felt uneasy? Unwelcome?
On the flip side, maybe you’ve walked through someone’s door and instantly felt at ease?
Well, that’s energy!
A home is a sponge – absorbing the positive and negative emotions of the people living there. In fact, the word home refers to the energy entity created by the physical dwelling, the family that lives in it, and the identity that arises from the interaction between the two.
Understanding this dynamic is especially important when moving into a new home. We spend so much time and money cleaning the carpets and furnace ducts (and don’t get me wrong that is important!) that we forget about cleaning the energy of the house.
You definitely want a clean space for your family on every level!
When my family made the big move to our forever home in 2017, I definitely noticed the echos of the previous owners within its walls. Even with all their furniture gone, it didn’t feel like my space quite yet.
It was time to get to work, energetically speaking!
Before the moving truck arrived with all our worldly possessions, I spent a couple hours in the house performing my HomeHearted practice for moving into a new home. It involves three steps:
- Cleansing: the act of physically removing dirt and debris from the house. Dirt is energetically connected (and physically connected for that matter) to the previous owners and must be removed before the purification and blessing rituals of the Practice can be performed. Thankfully, I was able to skip this step since the house was professionally cleaned!
- Purification: the act of removing unwanted negative energy from the space.
- Blessing: the act of infusing your new home with life-giving energy, lightness and love.
After I completed the purification process and blessed our home with love, the space felt clean and ready to receive our belongings and to receive us!
Homes are like sponges – absorbing the positive and negative emotions of the people living there.
At the core of the practice is the acknowledgement that your new home is alive and has a spiritual heart that must be lovingly nurtured. This idea may seem a bit foreign, but consider it a beautiful mindset from which to enter the relationship between you and your new home. Together, you are creating a literal “home base” for your family. A place rooted in love, stability, respect and good ole’ fashioned positive energy.
That’s the HomeHearted way.
