Online dating apps, self-help books, networking, social media, mutual friends … if you’re looking for love, chances are you’re pulling out all the stops to find the One.

However.

Did you know there could be something in your home that is undermining your efforts?

Believe it or not, it is your bedroom!  Your love nest may be keeping you from finding your ideal match.

To explain, let’s start with the basics. The ENERGY in your surroundings and possessions is a powerful influencer on how you feel, think, and act.

Quite simply, this energy shapes your life experience.

Think about the dentist’s office. Its white, sterile walls and antiseptic smell can trigger fear and anxiety. Walk into a spa with lush plants, soft music and the smell of patchouli and you instantly relax.

So, how do we cultivate this power to welcome more joy, abundance and LOVE into your life?

Feng Shui!

Feng shui is a traditional Chinese practice that interprets energy (and its patterns) in our surroundings so that we can “arrange” those influencers to support our goals and optimize our well-being.  I like to think of this ancient wisdom as a step-by-step guide for creating a home bursting with positive life force energy (chi) and life-changing magic.

According to Feng Shui expert and teacher Amanda Gibby-Peters, what we experience in life is often reflected energetically in our surroundings. “When we change what’s happening around us in a positive way, we reconfigure what happens in our lives as well. I like to think of Feng Shui as home improvement-meets-self empowerment.”

What’s your bedroom saying?

Now, take a moment to think about your bedroom.

It is considered a Power Spot in Feng Shui, synonymous with the 3 S’s – sleep, stillness and sensuality. How does your bedroom currently rate in these three areas? Does it support or sabotage you?

For example, is there a dusty treadmill in the corner? Do you sleep on old, tattered sheets? Do you struggle to relax with all the piles of work files beside the bed?

If so, follow these simple guidelines to help shift the energy and fill your bedroom with the intention of LOVE.  If you’re already in a relationship, these tips apply to you, too.

The Power of Pairs

Using pairs of items in your bedroom reinforces the idea of “pairing up” in real life.  Do you have only one nightstand?  Buy a matching one and add two bedside lamps while at it. If you have several odd-numbered things, like frames, plants, décor items and decorative pillows in the space, do these mirror your dating life?  Change this up and welcome in more “couple” energy.

 Solo Imagery

I have visited the homes of many clients who are struggling to find a love match. I often notice the photography or artwork in the bedroom features solo imagery. It could be a single figure, a solitary tree, or one flower.  This metaphor can make “coupling up” difficult.  Find new homes for these singular images and focus on ones celebrating the beauty of pairs.

Masculine/Feminine Energy

If you’ve been single for a while, your décor likely favours masculine or feminine energy. Think of a bachelor pad, man cave, or she-sanctuary. Updating the design of the space with colour and accessories to balance both energies will help your future partner feel more welcome in your home – and your life.

Already in a relationship? Represent both partners’ interests equally with personal photos and mementos. We all need to feel seen and heard in our homes.

Creating space

If you want a love match, prepare your bedroom now for a partner. Leave empty hangers in the closet. Empty a drawer. Buy extra personal care items, like toothbrushes or razors.  Consider these little “suggestions” a big welcome sign to the universe of what you want to attract.

Bedroom Housekeeping 101

The bedroom is an outer expression of how you prioritize self-care as well as romance. Here are a few key Shui tips to follow:

  • If possible, put your bed in the Command position, which means you can see the door while lying down.  This helps the subconscious brain relax, giving you a more restful sleep.
  • Ensure ample space on each side of the bed so it is comfortable for both partners.
  • Clean up clutter and resist the urge to store things under the bed. Keep the energy flowing freely.
  • Buy the best quality linens you can afford and make your bed daily.
  • Resist the urge to keep phones and electronics by your bed – bedtime is rest time!

Tune into what your home – and bedroom – are saying.   By making a few simple changes, you can shift the energy and welcome more love into your life.

That’s the HomeHearted Way.
